About JaTawny
JaTawny Muckelvene Chatmon was born in Japan and grew up an ‘army brat’. She had the unique opportunity to take in the cultures of three different continents all before the age of 12. By then she was in the United States and elbow-deep in her aunt’s theatre company, located in Virginia at the time. It was during this time that JaTawny’s passion for her vision was brought to her attention. Even at her young age, she was intent on being involved in every aspect of production.
Her love of theatre, quite naturally, led her to a love of photographs. She was mesmerized by the art that captured a whole story by the click of a camera. What a beautiful concept. When she shared with her boyfriend (now husband) her fascination, he suggested she get a camera. It was the best gift that she ever received from her parents. A simple Panasonic that did wonders. She immediately made it her business to learn everything there was to know about a camera. During her first stages, she began to shoot adults. JaTawny Vision Photography was immediately born.
In 2004 after the birth of her son, she began to photograph children. Again, she discovered an intense passion much larger than anything she'd ever felt. She was inspired by the free spirit in the children and it showed in her images.
JaTawny Muckelvene Chatmon specializes in children's fashion photography. Her photographs are crisp, lively and posses a quality that goes way beyond just two dimensions. In describing her style of shooting, she says, "I prefer to photograph children being free...being organic. Whenever I can, I chase the sun. I am a self proclaimed "sun chaser" and while some see a sun flare as a flaw in an image, I chase the sun striving to capture it in my shots. For someone that has never had an interest in Nature photography, I feel I work best photographing my subjects in and around the most natural elements known to us."
